Safety and hazard data message

The Safety and hazard data message is to enable the communication of safety data and advice on relevant materials supplied to industrial customers so as to enable them to take measures to protect their employees and the environment from any potential harmful effects from these materials.

UNH

M(1) : Message header

A service segment starting and uniquely identifying a message. The message type code for the Safety and hazard data message is SAFHAZ. Note: Safety and hazard data messages conforming to this document must contain the following data in segment UNH, composite S009: Data element 0065 SAFHAZ 0052 D 0054 96A 0051 UN

BGM

M(1) : Beginning of message

A segment for unique identification of the Safety and Hazard Data Message.

RFF

C(10) : Reference

A segment for referencing documents that relate to the entire message, e.g. an EEC regulation number, and EPA regulation id, etc.

DTM

C(10) : Date/time/period

A segment specifying the dates, times, and/or periods that are relevant to the whole message. The segment must be specified at least once to identify the document date.

FTX

C(99) : Free text

A segment with free text information, in coded or clear form, that applies to the entire message.

SG1 C(10) : NAD-RFF-SG2

A group of segments identifying the parties involved in the transaction, the contact method(s) and mean(s), and optionally any reference required for a specific party.

NAD

M(1) : Name and address

A segment to identify a party name and address, either by coded identification or in clear form. The identity of the party responsible for placing the substances/materials on the market must be identified in accordance with legal requirements. It is recommended that where possible only the coded form of the party ID should be specified, e.g. the Buyer and Seller of Goods are known to each other, thus only the coded ID is required.

A segment for referencing documents that relate to a specific party, e.g. contract number, order number, etc.

SG2 C(10) : CTA-COM

A group of segments identifying the contact person or department for a trading partner and specifying the communication channel and number. This segment must appear at least once to identify the emergency contact of the goods supplier.

A segment to identify a person or department and their function, to whom communications should be directed.

COM

C(5) : Communication contact

A segment specifying the communication method, e.g. telephone and means, e.g. telephone number, for the specified contact.

SG3 M(1000) : DOC-IMD-PIA-MEA-RCS-RFF-DTM-FTX-SG4-SG6

A group of segments providing the safety and hazard details of a substance to enable appropriate precautions to be taken. Each occurrence of the detail section relates directly to one Safety Data Sheet, i.e. one substance or product.

M(1) : Document/message details

A segment for identifying the start of the data relevant to a specific substance and, where possible, identifying the suppliers product id.

IMD

C(10) : Item description

A segment for identifying or describing the substance. This must be identical to the identification information provided on the label. Other means of identification available may also be given.

PIA

C(10) : Additional product id

A segment providing additional codes to further identify the substance specified in the LIN segment.

MEA

C(10) : Measurements

A segment enabling the physical measurements of the substance to be specified where this is required for full identification.

RCS

C(10) : Requirements and conditions

A segment enabling any necessary industry/national/ international regulations relating to the substance to be identified.

RFF

C(10) : Reference

A segment for referencing documents that relate to the specific product or substance.

DTM

C(10) : Date/time/period

A segment specifying the date of issue and/or change Safety data.

FTX

C(99) : Free text

A segment with text information, in coded or clear form, used when additional information relating to the substance is needed but cannot be accommodated within other segments.

SG4 C(10) : NAD-RFF-SG5

A group of segments identifying the parties involved in the transaction, the contact method(s) and mean(s), and optionally any reference required for a specific party.

A segment to identify a party name and address, either by coded identification or in clear form. A segment identifying the hazard/safety report section (e.g. one of the 16 sections required by EEC law) or type that the group of segments is associated with.

A segment identifying the specific substance related to the hazard.

A segment identifying a type or specific piece of equipment required to handle, store or transport the substance.

A segment with text information, in coded or clear form, used when additional information related to the specific hazard is needed but cannot be accommodated within other segments.

SG7 C(10) : NAD-RFF-SG8

A group of segments identifying the parties involved in the transaction, the contact method(s) and mean(s), and optionally any reference required for specific party.

A segment identifying particular characteristic about which information will be required.

A segment further describing the characteristic of a substance or component of a substance.

A segment identifying the value of attributes.

SG14 C(10) : RFF-DTM

A group of segments identifying documents/regulations and, if required, their dates relevant to the characteristic.
